Look what wandered into our yard yesterday….
This is going to be short… I’m cutting into my cuddle-with-the-hubby time.
The church meet ‘n’ greet tonight went well. It was a small crowd and they were all pretty laid back - although there was one fiesty little grandma present. She was great! Anyway. I think that the things I shared about myself and my vision for Children’s Ministry were well received. Everyone seemed eager to get some new programming in place and to volunteer to help make those visions a reality.
Afterwards my hubby and I were talking and he told me he feels comfortable there now. I do too. It’s starting to feel like it’s home.
Let me tell you, we’ve just been having so much fun the last couple of days! Nothing says I love you like bailing water together.
The rain has stopped but not before we found the leak and the source of the water. There’s a downspout at the back corner of our house. It was dumping all of the water right at the corner of our foundation. Once we put on an extender the leaking stopped. We pulled off quite a bit of paneling and peeled back the carpet and found rotted wood, cracks and lots of creepy crawlies. My awesome hubby ripped off all the wood, scraped out all the gunk and sprayed insecticide. Today he’ll be patching the cracks and I’ll continue cleaning the carpet.
There’s a small stream on the other side of the basement - in the unfinished portion. It’s gotten a few boxes wet and we’ll need to tackle that today too. We haven’t found the source of this leak yet. The water is coming in from a crawlspace. Guess who’s not about to crawl in there?! I will gladly be indebted to my hubby as long as he’s the one willing to wiggle around under the house. Blech!
I’m an optimist. I see things as half full. Take our basement for example. I see it as half full of water. Quite literally.
It flooded.
Again.
sigh.
I woke my hubby up early and we’re heading down to the basement to pull off some paneling to see where this water is coming from and what we can do to stop it. Maybe we’ll find a hidden painting behind the paneling that’s worth millions and then we can afford to build that ark. See? Ever the optimist.
My family moved to Arizona in 1983 and I lived there until this year… that’s 24 years of living in a desert. Now I’m living somewhere where water falls from the sky. I love it. It has been raining here for the past four days. Today it hasn’t rained very hard but it has been pretty steady. I jokingly wrote to my friend that perhaps we ought to start building an ark.
Bad idea…
I have *Officially* been unofficially offered the job! Basically they extended an invitation to the position and this Sunday they will announce the proposal to the congregation with a meet ‘n’ greet Sunday evening. The following Sunday the members of the church will vote and then it will be Official.
I started to write about my lack of interview experience and in the midst of typing I realized that I have actually been through more interviews than I initially remembered. Huh, how ’bout that.
My kids are so loving and willing to share. That lovely cough that’s been making the rounds? Yeah, they ever so thoughtfully shared it with me. Just in time for my second interview tonight.
It’s amazing how having a good hair day can affect your day. It makes me think of those Orbit gum commercials where the people get all dirty but they still have pearly white teeth. Anything can go wrong - it’s okay, I have good hair! Bring it on - I am invincible today!
