I am determined to become more frugal when it comes to grocery shopping. My biggest stumbling blocks were trying to match up coupons to sales and then how to cook with whatever I managed to buy on sale.
I’ve nailed them both!!!
Kickin' tail feathers in this thing called life!

I’m sitting here watching snowflakes blow into my (green) yard. My poor AZ blood has just about had enough of the cold. Please tell me it’s going to get warm again SOON.
My kids pointed out some white birds in the parking lot the other day.
“Mommy, what are those birds?”
I looked, squinted, did a double take…
“Um, they appear to be seagulls.”
We have seagulls, no beach and snow. What?!
There is an event that occurs in our home that happens with such regularity and it never fails to make me laugh.
Yeah, that’s right – it’s a shout out to FlyLady.com! Can I get a w00t, w00t??
I keep forgetting how much I like the ideas and concepts that she has but I hate the 10,000 emails. I didn’t sign up this time around. I think I remember enough of her ideas to go at it on my own. In fact, I did a 27 Fling Boogie but it was more like 27 x 27! The living space in the basement is DONE! It’s uncluttered, cleaned up, vacuumed and organized. (and my kitchen sink is sparkling clean, ha ha.)
We also sat down and made our meal plan for the week – INCLUDING hunting down coupons. The plan is to eat dinner first so we aren’t shopping hungry and then go hit up the stores tonight. The stores should be pretty empty since it’s a Saturday night. We’re out of some basic cleaning supplies and paper goods. Hopefully the coupons will help balance out our total this week.
One of the other tips we’re working on is to open an ING savings account. We’re not good about saving up for the random bills – car tags, heating oil, subscriptions etc… and this will be a good way to set aside that money. Plus, one of our friends, with an ING account, was gracious enough to send us a referral so we’ll get a sign-up bonus of $25. Who can pass up FREE money?! Score!
Guess what I found today? A podcast!! Not just any ol’ podcast but one on uncluttering and coupon clipping! Score!
I’d love to hear any tips, tricks, websites, podcasts, radio shows, blogs, books or just plain old advice on uncluttering or meal planning while saving money. Ready… GO!
Besides uncluttering our menu and finances, I’m also trying to unclutter our house. Easier said than done. By nature, I’m a hoarder. I blame it all on my dad ;) He hoards, his dad hoarded… Not only did I inherit the gene to hoard, I also inherited the organizing gene from my mother. I’m frequently at battle with myself. The piles of clutter drive me insane but the thought of throwing something away… something I think I might need someday…
After mortgage/rent what’s your highest bill? For us it’s our grocery bill. (anywhere between $500-$800 a month – YIKES!) Feeding a family of five isn’t cheap. Or at least that’s what I used to think.
Whenever I start to feel like my kids are out of control and I need a little perspective all I need to do is watch an episode of SuperNanny. The horns go away and I can catch a glimpse of their halos once again.
I am so tired today. I think it’s a combination of crying puppies and an oncoming cold. Oh the puppies! They are so cute, and cuddley, and kissey, and uncoordinated, and whiney… oh my goodness… what crybabies! It’s getting better – thank goodness – but there’s still the middle-of-the-night crying.
Somehow I managed to catch someones cold. With four sick people in the house it’s anyone’s guess as to who shared the love with me. At the first sign of the sniffles I used to run out and stock up on Zicam nasal swabs. Then I read about people losing their sense of smell. That would be handy when your child forgets to flush the toilet after a particular stinky episode… Or cleaning up after stinky puppy butts. I, in general, enjoy my sense of smell. And I know what you’re thinking… “what are the odds it would happen to you?” I don’t know. But it happened to my dad and I’m not taking chances. I have yet to find anything that works as well as the Zicam did. Boo.
It doesn’t help that it’s rainy out and all I want to do is curl up in bed. Maybe with a good book. And some coffee. Or tea, I’m not picky. But I have work due today and I have church tonight.
Maybe there’s time for a quick nap…
He slept on the couch last night.
