Zanne tagged me this week with these instructions:
(1) Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages)
(2) Open the book to page 123
(3) Find the fifth sentence
(4) Post the next three sentences
(5) Tag five people
Not surprisingly the nearest book is Creative Correction by Lisa Whelchel. I keep it handy these days. (sidenote: I found out she’s one of the speakers at the SBC Women’s Conference – yee haw!) If this book hadn’t been sitting right behind me you would’ve ended up with Stephen King’s “Blaze”. (I didn’t like the ending by the way.)
Now let’s see… page 123… it’s a Toolbox page for the chapter entitled “Seeing the Big Picture”.
Sentence #5) “When your child gets good grades, reward him by allowing him to buy a decoration for his bedroom.” (Which pertains to the Scripture reference just above it; Proverbs 24:3-4)
The next three sentences are as follows:
“Proverbs 1:8-9 ‘Listen my son [daughter] to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.’ Buy a necklace for your child and hide it. Then, when your daughter chooses to obey you rather than go her own way, reward her with the necklace.
(Like Zanne, I shared an extra sentence. Now you don’t have to wonder what the hidden necklace was for. You’re welcome.)
I love this book. I love that it uses Scriptures in creative ways to encourage your children to be diligent in making good choices and it encourages them to know their Bible verses!
