A Prayer from Beans:
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for the food. Thank you for church that we don’t be lonely.
Amen.
Tonight was a blast! For once I wasn’t running around at the last minute trying to get supplies for a classroom or fix a broken computer. Whew!
During recreation we had the 50ft slip’n’slide set up and the kids had so much fun! I’d love to post some of the awesome pics I snapped but since they aren’t my kids I won’t be doing that (well, except for one picture - shhh don’t tell). I do have pics of my own crew to post though…..
This picture cracks me up because we’re all supposed to be praying but you always have that one kid that just has to look around.

I love these slip’n’slide pictures of my kiddos. First up is Beans… Her style is to run and slide on her knees.

The kids did a relay race with a leaking cup…. The Boy got a wee bit wet…

His style is full on belly… Just try to stay on the slide dude.

And these. Oh, these are my absolute favorite pictures.
My Chickie…
Whew! Day 2 of VBS is over! The kids were challenged last night to bring 10 friends tonight and if they did…. our Youth Guy would get dunked in an icey baptismal. We started the opening ceremony with 9 friends and the kids were bummed but during the video we had a 10th show up! Splish-splash!! It was great. Now the deal is if they bring 10 new friends tomorrow our Pastor will get dunked AND he has to sing the theme song while he’s doing it.
I’ve heard some rumblings among the kids that I should be next in line…….
ha.

Today as the kids and I were running errands we passed a local cemetery. We’ve passed it quite often recently and Beans has become fascinated with the “dead people” as she calls it. Here’s today’s conversation:
Beans: Look guys! Look at all the dead people! There are tons!
Chickie: Yeah, it’s the cemetery.
Beans: Why are they all dead?
Me: Because you don’t bury people alive.
Beans: How do they get in there? Do they dig a hole?
Me: Yes.
Beans: When I’m dead how will I dig with a shovel?!
Me: You don’t dig the hole, other people will do it for you.
Beans: Oh. I want to go in the hole now.
Me: Wow, your hair is really tangled. Did you have a party in your bed last night?
Beans: No.
Me: Well, I think your hair had a party and didn’t tell you.
Beans: No. I was talking to God last night.
Tonight Beans and I were sitting on the couch - side by side. She was holding my hubby’s cell phone and I decided to have some fun with her. I slid my phone out of my pocket and dialed his phone. When it rang my hubby told her to go ahead and answer it.
We have a plastic blue tub in the hallway that’s half full of clothes that the kids have outgrown. Every time we do a load of laundry I find another pair of pants or a t-shirt to add to the tub. The other day we were getting ready to go out and Beans started to put on her dragon coat. I love this coat. It’s curly green fabric with purple scales running up the back up to the front of the hood. She loves this coat too. It’s her favorite one. Recently I’ve been dropping hints that maybe it’s too small… the sleeves are 3/4 sleeves now. She didn’t care except this last time. She started to put it on and declared it was too small - it’s for babies. She went and dropped it in the tub.
And there was this little pang in my heart.
Today my husband asked me if I’d looked in the tub recently. There, on top, were Beans’s two favorite baby blankets. He said she’d brought them out to the couch and when she discovered she couldn’t curl up entirely under them she declared they were too small - they’re for babies - and dropped them in the tub.
And there was a huge pang in my heart!
I’m not ready for this. I picture the scene in the Robin Williams Peter Pan movie when one of the lost boys is trying to find Pan in Robin’s face by stretching and squishing his face until finally he says, “Oh there you are Pan.” Except that I’m looking in my little girl’s face trying to find my baby. Don’t get me wrong, I love the little girl she has become but I’m not ready to say goodbye to my little baby. I know, I know. I should’ve seen it coming. It happened with Chickie… it happened with the Boy… I knew it would happen - that it was happening with Beans but something about seeing her favorite things in the give-away tub… That last little bit, the small bit hanging on by the thinnest of threads, is gone.
Somebody better tell me that the best years are yet to come! Right?
“Mama, can you fix my boing boing?”
“You mean your slinky?”
“No. It’s my boing boing, … my boing boing, … my boing boing.”
(for a minute there i thought i was in preschool rap video)
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
Published December 6, 2007 Da Beans , Really?! , ramblings 1 CommentDid I mention that we don’t have any heat at our house? We don’t have a fireplace or wood burning stove either. Want to guess what this morning brought? Mmm hmm. Snow.
Happy Birthday my little Bean! I can’t believe you’re FOUR already. Any last traces of babyhood are far gone and the last bit of toddlerhood has faded. You’re now 100% Little Girl.
You are so much fun to be with. We get to spend all day together - just you and me. You are so good about entertaining yourself when I have work to do. But there are times that you demand my attention and affection. You’ll find me at my computer and come over and put your head on my arm. If that doesn’t work you’ll hug my arm. And if that doesn’t work you’ll climb into my lap and snuggle. That always works!
When you do play by yourself you like to play with Play-Doh, Little People and Polly Pockets. You also love watching Dragon Tales - just like your sister when she was this age. When you watch t.v. you’re very physical. No t.v. zombie. You hang upside down off of the couch or lay on the back or arms of the couch. You also love to draw - unfortunately you don’t limit your artwork to paper… walls, furniture and skin have all been decorated by you. You’re happy to curl up on your own with a stack of books but you prefer someone to read them to you.
If I ask you “Where are my kisses?” you throw your arms up and tell me that they’re in your pitties. When I ask for them back you pucker up your fish lips and give me a loud smack. I hope my kisses stay in your pitties for years to come.
You have a crazy sense of humor. You’re always saying the most random things and you love to laugh at the simplest things. Knock-knock jokes are your favorite but you only know one so you tell it over and over again.
Knock Knock
Who’s there?
Orange
Orange who?
Orange banana!
That’s your version and it always makes you laugh.
You waffle between wanting to do everything yourself and wanting me or Daddy to do it for you. I’m amazed at the things you attempt to do. You approach new feats with bravery and confidence. I pray that stays with you. Just last night when you were trick or treating at a neighbor’s house you showed just how brave you can be. The neighbors had a creepy animated statue that held the bowl of candy. When it started moving and talking your brother and sister ran away screaming. You stayed put and hollered after them, “Hey Kids come back here!”
I love that you call your brother and sister “the kids”. If you’re asking about just one of them you’ll use their name but if you’re talking about both of them they become “the kids”. You have your own vocabulary that’s evolved since you first started babbling. When you first started talking on the phone you sounded chinese. Now when you talk on the phone most people can understand you.
You have become a fashionista - taking great interest in your clothing and hair. There are rules when dressing you. Any bottoms you wear must not touch your button. You’ll wear jumpers but not overalls. You don’t mind mismatched clothes or getting clothes dirty but nothing can be too tight or too loose. You like to wear your hair down most of the time. Sometimes you’ll bring me a brush and a handful of hair ties and clips.
Bathtime is still your favorite. Washing your hair isn’t the battle it once was. You hated getting water in your eyes but you don’t care about that as much. Now it’s water in your ears that freaks you out. Out of habit you still call it “taking a ba” even though you can say bath.
Someday you’ll be embarrassed by this but you love to pick your nose. We’re always hearing “I need a tich-chew. I have a boogie.” I’m so glad you ask for a tissue! I just wish you’d ask for it before you go digging! You’re also a fanatic hand washer. I never have to remind you to wash your hands after the bathroom or mining for boogies.
There is so much about your year as a three-year-old that I am going to miss. I am looking forward to this next year and seeing what it will bring. You are such a blessing to our lives little Beans! My prayer for you today is that you continue to be confident, that you explore the world around you, that hugs and kisses will flow freely, always for safety, and that you remain my little Beans for just a bit longer.
I love you!
Mommy
